April, 2006

Hello to all my Lake Joseph Yacht Club Friends!

On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you all to another fantastic season of sailing, summer friendships and fun.  It is so great to know that our favorite season of the year is set to begin, and we will all see each other soon!

Here are just a few of the exciting new programs, events and highlights you can expect.

NEW BOATS!  Due to a special matching grant supplied to our club through the Trillium Foundation, we have purchased SIX new sailboats and a new safety boat.  These boats will be used by all of our sailors, and allow us to run a fantastic WhiteSail, Bronze and New Optimist Program.  However, this funding requires our club’s membership to continue their generous support, so please remember your capital fund donation this year!

Special thanks again to Bruce Hatherley of Gordon Bay Marine for their generous donations to our safety boat fleet.

NEW PROGRAMS!

· Optimist Program is geared to 8 and 9 year olds…letting them get a great start in our all but untippable Opti boats!

· Adult Program invites Mom’s, Dad’s and all other adults to learn to sail, or improve of their skills.

· QuickStart Program allows those kids that got a later start in sailing lessons, to sail with their same-age friends.

· Modified White Sail Program for Visually Impaired Sailors.  Special thanks to Carolyn Gagnon and Leo Martin for creating this unique program. Our club is very proud to be a leader in this area, creating a program which will be rolled out across Canada.

NEW EVENTS!  Our Social and Sailing Calendar is full of great new ideas, and the best of our club favorites.  Here are just a few new events to look forward to…

· Kids Golf Day

· Weekend Races and Apres Parties!  All Members welcome to share in the spirit and fun at both events!

· Halloween in July…expanded to include our traditional afternoon of trick or treating, and one just for in-course sailors!

· Morning Yoga….come for some exercise and great company!

However, these and other events can not run without the support of our membership.  Take a look at all events highlighted in red.  Without an organizer/host these events can not be run!  Please contact Debbie Cooper at social@lakejoesailing.com or 905-338-5995 to help!

WEEKEND RACES AND APRES!  These have become some of our club’s most successful and fun events.  A few new twists this year will make them even better. All members invited to participate in both the races, and casual Apres following.

NEW WEBSITE! Have you taken a look at www.lakejoesailing.com? Thanks to Heidi Watters for creating our new website and newsletter format; they are fantastic.  Make sure you check us out often for updates!

CLOTHING AND MERCHANDISE!  Looking for some great new summer clothes?  This year we are offering all our traditional favorites plus some new exciting items!

TELL A FRIEND!  To keep our club healthy and active, we need to recruit new friends, families and members.  PLEASE TELL A FRIEND about us!  Just contact membership@lakejoesailing.com and we will send them a membership package, or call us at 1-705-375-1207.

Please contact me at info@lakejoesailing.com or 416-485-3320 if you have any questions or suggestions about our club.

I can’t wait to see all of you!

Hilary Morris Swim School is Back!

July 9 – 13 Hilary Morris will be running a Bronze level (Bronze Star/Bronze Medallion/Bronze Cross) swimming course on Lake Joe (final location TBD).  For those of you who did your Bronze with Hilary last summer, this is a great way to get your next lifesaving level.

For details, call Hilary directly at

(647) 287-8277.

Hilary expects to be in Muskoka for only a few weeks, so give her a call if you are interested in any other swimming lessons.  She teaches right from beginner swim levels up to Bronze Cross as well as the boating course.
